Wonderblocks nurtures essential problem-solving and thinking skills for children. It's a step-by-step programme, grouped into two colour-coded levels. Each level introduces key ideas such as planning, sequencing, patterns, logic and perseverance.
We’ve worked closely with experts in early years computing and chIld development to ensure every episode supports a confident, creative and resilient approach to problem-solving. It offers skills that are the foundations to success for all children and are perfect for future coders.
Wonderblocks uses best-practice computational thinking, aligned to the EYSF (Early Years Foundation Stage) framework and KS1 curriculum.
Level 1 introduces the Wonderblocks Go and Stop and their friends the Do Blocks. Children learn how the Do Blocks help to make things happen in Thinkingland. They begin to explore problem-solving, ideas and plans, patterns and sequences and discover the fun of tinkering – trying something out to see what happens. All with a healthy dose of teamwork!
In Level 2, children learn more about abstraction, decomposition and planning – in other words, how to think things through, breaking problems into smaller parts, trying things out and learning how to come up with a plan. They're introduced to debugging and logic – how to spot mistakes and use what they have learnt to fix them – and, with the help of Wonderblock Again, they can learn about loops – patterns that repeat. In the grand finale children revisit everything they’ve explored so far and are given the chance to reflect on how their thinking has grown.
Level 3 introduces Black, White, Grey, Pink and Brown. As they get to know these Colourblocks, children learn to recognise and name their colours, explore light and dark colours and discover that there’s more than one way to mix a colour.
Level 4 is where children can meet The Printing Crew - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. Children discover the world of printer colours and learn about colour wheels.
Level 5 introduces Lime, Sky Blue, Dark Blue. Children explore bright and dull colours and discover that there are in-between colours like orangey-red or reddish-orange. They'll see how mixing different amounts of colours gives different results and see the fun in being creative with colour.
Wonderblocks is the new show that teaches problem-solving and thinking skills with all the humour, catchy songs and great stories that you’d expect from a ‘blocks show.
Using Thinking Magic, Wonderblocks demonstrates basic coding for pre-schoolers, teaching the importance of making a plan and doing the right things in the right order, but it’s not just about learning to code. Wonderblocks is for all children, helping them to develop essential thinking skills, teaching them to tackle problems with a positive outlook, to see obstacles as exciting challenges, to break problems down, to tackle them one step at a time, to feel confident, to experiment, create, persevere, to learn from mistakes as well as successes, to work together and, above all, to have fun!
At the heart of Wonderblocks are two lively, curious characters called GO and STOP, who are always wondering about the world around them. They have very different energies, but a shared love of exploring the world, finding out how it works, figuring things out and helping others.
GO is a cheerful, energetic, hands-on explorer, always ready to ‘give it a go’... and to worry about the consequences later. She’s like a super-positive life-coach; always encouraging everyone and helping them to be their best selves... although she can sometimes jump in without thinking.
STOP is a warm-hearted problem solver, kind and considerate, who takes a more cautious approach. She’s always the first to stop, consider the options and reflect on what’s happened. She’s great at appreciating how far she’s come and thinking about what might work better next time!
